"Vocabulary of Revolutionary Gestures" von Elske Rosenfeld

A woman refuses to go back inside the factory after the end of a strike in 1968 in France. Someone is trying to make a proposition at a revolutionary meeting in 1989 in East Berlin. Two friends circle Tahrir Square in a car after the end of a last bout of protests in 2012.
The performance functions as an intervention into three documents of political events that are held together by the physicalities contained in the material. It plays with components of the material itself (images; sounds; movements, postures, and gestures of the figures, the camera, and objects in the footage), which are reworked into a sequence of repeated interventions into, and actions in front of the projected material. The performance is part of Rosenfeld’s ongoing research complex "A Vocabulary of Revolutionary Gestures".

Elske Rosenfeld is an artist and writer. Her works investigate the body and revolution, and the history of state socialism and its dissidencies.
