Verschmutzung. Körperzustände. Faschismus. is a two-part conceptual exhibition project presenting artists from Germany and the global present. It explores the connection between (neo) right-wing movements and people’s relationship to the body (their own and other people’s) and the related notions of cleanness. From this viewpoint, we examine the work of artists who deal with the body and its fluids, and with dirt. The project discusses an analysis of fascism based on gender relations and explores current links to continuities in patterns of structural violence. The first part of the project in Oberhausen in 2020 took an art-historical view, while this second part deals with the present. The problematic link between cleanness, unwanted bodies and political order is also reflected in discourses of displacement in Berlin.
With regard to the transformation phase and relocation of nGbK in 2022, we would like to present the exhibition in the space on Oranienstrasse as a real or staged occupation, thus also reflecting displacement in formal terms. Accompanying events (performances, film screenings and panel discussions) would be distributed across various other locations.
